Obama and Malcolm X

So, let me get this straight: Al-Qaeda number two man Ayman al-Zawahiri ridiculed US president-elect Barack Obama as a “house Negro” in an Internet audio message. Okay.

Aside from the obvious possibility (probability, in the minds of some) that this was an elaborate forgery perpetrated by Western intelligence agencies in order to deepen the wedge dividing Blacks in America from the Islamic world (not that Al Qaeda in any way represents a standard for measuring the Muslim world), what if Dr. al-Zawahiri actually said that?

Dr. al-Zawahiri is an Egyptian physician. His “boss,” Osama bin-Laden, is a wealthy Saudi Arabian construction company heir. They were never “house servants” or “field servants” in The Big House. No. They grew up enjoying all the privileges of official residents of The Big House. But, so for that matter, did Cuba’s Fidel Castro and his revolutionary companion Dr. Che Guevara. And as far as that goes, so did William Ayers, of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) Weather Underground-fame. So, just being privileged at birth, per se, is no curse.

Dr. al-Zawahiri insulted President-elect Obama (who worked his way up from humble beginnings) and other prominent Black Americans who have held high office in the U.S. administration with the term used by the late Muslim Black militant Malcolm X. Brother Malcolm used the term to describe slaves he said were more loyal to their white masters than they were to their slave brothers and sisters. Slaves who would betray their own best interest–freedom from slavery–in order to hold on the comforts they received living in the slavemaster’s house.

“It is true about you (the President-elect) and people like you … what Malcolm X said about the house Negroes,” al-Zawahiri purportedly said in the message, naming former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the current Secretary, Condoleezza Rice.

I don’t now what was in the curriculum of study or on the personal reading lists for either Gen. Powell or Secretary Rice, but it is clear that President-elect Obama has not only read, studied, and been influenced by The Autobiography of Malcolm X, but by the writings of Drs. W.E.B. DuBois, and Frantz Fanon (a psychiatrist, philosopher, and revolutionary writer who was born in Martinique in the West Indies, and who was a major influence in 20th Century post-colonial studies and thinking).

That, I believe, would make Barack Hussein Obama, the first American president ever, to have studied Brother Malcolm, Fanon and DuBois! But he did not just read them he was affected by them! “The blunt poetry of his words, his unadorned insistence on respect, promised a new and uncompromising order, martial in its discipline, forged through sheer force of will,” Mr. Obama writes of Bro. Malcolm, according to Dr. Jerome Corsi, in his attack-book The Obama Nation. That sounds to me like a good, thoughtful analysis, which I myself can appreciate.

But Dr. Corsi did not mean to expose the President-elect’s admiration for Bro. Malcolm in order to refute any so-called “house Negro” charges from abroad. No, this man who authored the “Swift boat” campaign which doomed the presidential chances of 2004 Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry, says quite plainly that his book was written because he believes an Obama presidency will be “an abomination” because of the President-elect’s “radical leftist politics.”

So, is Mr. Obama a “house Negro” or a “radical leftist?”

I say, whatever he is, he is in the position he’s in today, because of Divine Providence. Because he and his temperament, and his intellect are just what this country needs at this time.

I can’t say that I know of any other Black person who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University Law School, who came back to our community and worked with poor people–the “field Negroes” if you will–rather than taking a high-paying job in some high-fallutin’ corporate law firm!

No, if Dr. al-Zawahiri and others in Al-Qaeda in fact put out the message that President-elect Obama is some sort of “house Negro,” they are mistaken. They should have first checked with us, the brothers and sisters “on the ground” in this country, before they tried to high-handedly insert their opinions into our “family business.”

No. Barack Obama is not your “house Negro” sort of public servant, and the “yo’ mama” crack on him by those outsiders, demonstrates their desperation because this new president might in fact turn the country around and restore America’s lost respect all over the world, including the Muslim world.

No apology is needed from Al-Qaeda. The smartest thing they can do is declare victory in all their sundry military campaigns, stop fighting and making mischief, and offer to negotiate peace treaties with the U.S., because a new day is dawning in the world, and surprise: the Sun is now rising in The West!
