Is Obama a Muslim?

“Is Senator Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim?”

So, what if he is? I don’t see anything wrong with being a Muslim.

But writing from Jerusalem, WorldNetDaily correspondent Aaron Klein asked recently: “Is Sen. Barack Obama a Muslim? Did he ever practice Islam?”

“The presidential candidate officially rejects both claims, but the issue of Obama’s personal faith has re-emerged amid conflicting accounts of his enrollment as a Muslim during elementary school in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation,” writes Mr. Klein.

“Widely distributed reports have noted in January 1968, Obama was registered as a Muslim at Jakarta’s Roman Catholic Franciscus Assisi Primary School under the name Barry Soetoro. He was listed as an Indonesian citizen,” he continues. Sen. Obama’s stepfather he said, worked for the Indonesian Army.

That’s enough about, whether he is or was ever a Muslim! At age six, in 1968, he–Barry Soetoro, or Barack Hussein Obama–could hardly have been expected to make an informed decision about what religion he should list on his elementary school registration. And why now, should the adult Obama be held responsible for an administrative decision made by his now deceased parents. What did they cheat and get food stamps or something? Do they even have food stamps or welfare in Indonesia?

We are not going to “Play The Dozens” concerning Sen. Obama, okay? Continue reading

The ‘Mumia Abu Jamal Rule’

It’s not hard for Black folks in America to imagine a world where there is one set of rules for the general public, and another set of rules just for them. Comedian Richard Pryor famously jokes about the situation. He says we go down to the Court House looking for “Justice,” but what we find there is “Just us.”

Death-row journalist Mumia Abu Jamal knows what’s that’s all about, and for 26 years has been a victim of a cruel double standard in the courts of Pennsylvania.

A federal appeals court refused to overturn Mr. Abu-Jamal’s murder conviction, on March 27, and rejected his call for a new trial. In 1982 he was convicted of murder in the killing of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner following a controversial, racially tense trial before a predominantly white jury. Many, many people, including yours truly, believe he did not kill that cop.

A three judge panel of the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals did order a new sentencing hearing in the case because of flawed jury instructions. If he is re-sentenced, he could again get the death penalty, or life in prison without parole.

“We will not accept this vicious and outrageous decision to keep an innocent man locked up and silenced,” Pam Africa, Coordinator of the International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal said in a statement. “The conspiracy to kill Mumia even though the government, the judges, the politicians, and everyone involved in this decision knows he is innocent, should be and will be denounced by the whole world.

“The only reason the government wants Mumia killed or locked up for life is because he has been so successful in exposing the hypocrisy, racism, oppression and deadliness of this system,” Ms. Africa continued.

“Mumia Abu-Jamal is an innocent man who never should have even been arrested let alone convicted and sentenced to death,” the International Action Center said in a statement. A world-renowned journalist and writer, a Black Panther Party member and a supporter in the 1980s of Philadelphia’s MOVE back-to-nature collective, Mr. Abu-Jamal’s recorded messages and his books have been heard and read around the world.  Continue reading

The real reason Hilary is fighting so hard

The real reason Sen. Hilary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is fighting so hard for the Democratic presidential nomination is because she understands, not that her rival for the party’s nod, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), is un-elect able. No. She understands what most scholars–political scientists and historians–understand, and that is that the Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the apparent Republican nominee, cannot win in November.

That’s right. The foremost rules in determining the outcome of presidential elections are all lined up against the incumbent, Grand Old Party nominee. Those factors are: Is there an unpopular war? Is the country in a recession? And, are there scandals connected to the incumbent administration?

Aside from a few loose words here and there, and that shooting-his-friend-in-the-face thing involving Vice President Dick Cheney, this administration has been relatively scandal free. But when it comes to the war and the economy, the Bush administration has problems in those areas (as the saying goes), “in spades.”

The country–indeed the whole world which feeds itself servicing the drunken sailor called America–is in a recession right now, and it looks to be potentially quite a bad recession. Can you say, “The worst The Great Depression?”

We are in the midst of an unpopular war which is very expensive in blood and treasure. Casualties have now topped 4,000 U.S. military personnel dead, and more than 25,000 severely wounded. Hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis have also been slaughtered by trigger-happy U.S. soldiers, more concerned about getting home safely than they are about “winning” the hearts of the Iraqi people to support whatever “cause” the U.S. may be championing. The soldiers know this illegal and immoral war cannot be “won” by the U.S. How do you “win” an earthquake? Continue reading

‘Winter Soldiers’ denounce the war they fought

Vice President Dick Cheney and Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), marked March 19, the fifth anniversary of the illegal and immoral U.S. invasion of Iraq by visiting there, where they proclaimed its success.

Meanwhile, thousands of anti-war protestors marked the occasion in Washington with a full week of acts of civil disobedience and teach-ins.

Led by active-duty personnel and veterans the mostly all-White bands of war protestors raised their voices against the senseless mayhem in Iraq and Afghanistan that is the Bush administration policy. They were joined by members of Code Pink, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Veterans For Peace, and the Stop Loss Congress on Capitol Hill a week before the anniversary.

Chanting “We are the Revolution,” 45 protestors were arrested at First St. and Independence Ave. on the House of Representatives’ side of the Capitol, and at the garage entrance to the Hart Bldg. on the Senate side.

“We’re saying to Congress, basically: ‘You guys have ridden a Peace Horse up to Capitol Hill. You haven’t made good on your promises. You haven’t done the job we elected you to do,’ which was de-fund the war and bring the troops home,” Jamillah El-Shafei, of the Stop Loss Congress said in an interview.

“We want them home now, not in 10 years. We’re (also) doing some blockading to confront Congress with civil resistance. Even if it’s for 45 minutes, in an effort to make the point: they have to listen to what the people say. Which is: bring our troops home and stop this policy of the back-door draft,” she continued. The “real” 3:00 a.m. phone call Sen. Obama will soon get

America’s typical, on-going, xenophobic, White-is-right mentality, which dominates the political landscape, has finally decided how to “deal with” the Presidential candidacy of Sen. Barack Hussein Obama Jr. They have already gone from the whispered innuendo about him secretly being a Muslim, to openly declaring that “Islamic terrorists will rejoice” if Sen. Obama is elected, as Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) did recently.

Terrorists worldwide will indeed be emboldened by an election victory by Sen. Obama they argue, not so much because of his name, or because of his family background, but because terrorists favor Sen. Obama’s, which true, patriotic Americans recognize as “surrender” policies that would translate into victory for the global jihad movement.

An Obama victory, they argue, will be a sign of future Western “appeasement” of America’s terrorist enemies, just as Neville Chamberlain’s victory in the United Kingdom, resulted in useless attempts to appease German Chancellor Adolf Hitler before World War II.

But the Bush administration, which I believe would never to leave anything to chance, when there’s a chance to cheat in order to affect the outcome, probably has some tricks up its sleeve. Continue reading

Whose idea was it to have a Farrakhan litmus test?

If Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) can survive the newly intensified news media-scrutiny demands on him, trying all along to keep the playing field level, while receiving multiple kitchen-sink-scars upside his head in the process, he could very well be on his way to The White House. And talk about being “twice as good.”

Imagine, you are in a classroom where a test is only applied to one student in the class. And he earns the best score. But why does he even have to pass the “Farrakhan Litmus Test.” He alone. Sen. Obama passed with flying colors.

Just what is being tested?

The implication is always that the Black candidate must do something extraordinary to demonstrate his or her fealty to the Crown, which is still firmly in White hands.

So, the scenario is that “Meet The Press” host Tim Russert would ambush Sen. Obama with the embarrassing “Farrakhan Question” during the final debate and showdown in Texas, a week before the big primaries. There are only two possible responses to the Farrakhan Question, both with considerable negative consequences. Sen. Obama’s choices were to politically “Pimp Slap” the Nation of Islam leader, the way Pres. Bill Clinton did to the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Sister Souljah, at the 1992 Rainbow-PUSH Coalition convention, or commit political suicide right there in the debate.

So, if we trust that he’s a true, red-blooded American, we can just proceed with the rest of his “weaknesses.” But it’s hard to shake the resentment some folks invariably feel, that here he comes, the “perfect” Black candidate–Harvard, White mother, grassroots community roots–so why does the perfect Black candidate have to have an African Muslim father, who gave him that middle name “Hussein?”

Can he be trusted?

Isn’t he a Muslim? Isn’t he unpatriotic? Isn’t his wife unpatriotic too? Isn’t he a terrorist? These are at the root of the Farrakhan Litmus Test. Continue reading

What Farrakhan actually said about Obama

(CHICAGO–Feb. 24, 2008) The nations–the Nation of Islam, the United States of America, the entire world–have simultaneously arrived at a divinely positioned crossroads, where ideals are pitted against selfishness and greed, and where young people, and one young man in particular are “the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change,” the Honorable Min. Louis Farrakhan told 20,000 supporters Feb. 24 in his 27th annual Saviours’ Day address.

That young man is presidential candidate and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

“We have been taught by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad that Master Fard Muhammad had a Black father and a White mother. The man that we call The Saviour was born of the two people,” Min. Farrakhan said, describing the founder of the Nation of Islam in North America and Mr. Muhammad’s Teacher, who was born in Mecca, Arabia Feb. 26, 1877.

“A Black man with a White mother became a saviour to us. A Black man with a White mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall,” Min Farrakhan said, pointing out that Sen. Obama does not represent the politics of yesterday, politics which have led this country to the brink of ruin.

“This has been the most difficult text that I have ever had to put together,” the Muslim leader told the audience made up of people from Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, Baltimore, New Orleans, Denver, Holly Springs and Jackson, Miss., Boston, London, Paris, Ottawa and Toronto, Canada, and dozens of other cities and towns who came to participate in the three-day meeting, which included workshops and gala events, and the annual reunion of Nation of Islam members who answered Min. Farrakhan’s call.

Sen. Obama, “is not only about changing who sits in the White House; he’s talking about changing the mindset of those that led us into the war in Iraq.” Continue reading

Obama and the ‘Garvey Question’

From my “Department of Where the Rubber Meets the Road…”

If Illinois Sen. Barack Obama were to become the 44th President of the United States, a question which could fairly be brought to him, then might be, whether or not he would grant a pardon to Black self-help leader Marcus Garvey.

A committee to exonerate Garvey continues to campaign for Congressional support of legislation authored by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) for 20 years now. The measure–H. Con. Res. 24–expresses the sense of the Congress that the President should pardon Mr. Garvey “to clear his name and affirm his innocence of crimes for which he was unjustly prosecuted and convicted.”

That is the last decision a ‘President Obama” would want to have to make early in his term: to have to give long, long overdue justice to a Black man, and by so doing appear to be appeasing Black radicals, instead of correcting a wrong; or to let the Good Name of an unfairly convicted and disgraced Black icon remain stained by White American race hatred?

Don’t expect any quick pardons during President Obama’s First 100 Days in the White House. That’s all the first acknowledged Black President would need to give him premature gray hair: a Marcus Garvey Case.

Don’t forget, it took 110 years after his death for Congress in 1977, to approve legislation restoring the citizenship of Confederate Commander Gen. Robert E. Lee. Lee’s act of treason against his country was not forgiven, for more than a century. But the Right Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey’s only crime was a desire to organize Black people into a strong world wide force for improvement of the Black Condition. Continue reading

I sold my chance to be President

In the summer of 1961, when “Negro” anything, always meant “first” something, I was a rising senior, attending John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles. I was a member of the Scholastic Sports Association, a daily high school sports reporting network associated with the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

One of the SSA brass was affiliated with the Hollywood “Miracle Mile” Post of the American Legion. In 1961–as it had done for countless years and most certainly continues to do even now–the American Legion took 800 boys to the State Capital in Sacramento for a week-long camp-out, ultimate reality show, and exercise in the American form of government called California Boys State. I was chosen to represent the American Legion Miracle Mile Post in 1961.

At the conclusion of Boys State, two boys are chosen to represent that state in the ultimate assembly: Boys Nation.

It was at Boys Nation one year later when Arkansas Boys Nation Delegate William Jefferson Clinton had his picture taken with Pres. John F. Kennedy, causing young Bill to believe he was then destined to himself become President of the United States of America. Which he did.

There were seven other Black boys at California Boys State in 1961. Most were very impressive “First Negro” type of Dudes. They all seemed to be scholar-athletes destined for great things in the future.

Me? I was more the Class Clown. Hey: Dare to Giggle. Dare to Grin. That’s my motto.

So, in a cynical moment, I sold my chance to be President of the United States, for $5. Here’s how the deal was “structured.” (I realize that no White Boy worth his salt would have paid any Negro Boy good money for the Negro Boy’s life-long chance to be President.) He paid me in special 1961 California Boys State money! Worth only slightly more than your basic “Monopoly” money.

But I still think I got the better part of that deal. Continue reading
