Is Obama ‘The Man’ or ‘The Omen?’

Is Barack Hussein Obama “The Man?” Or is he “The Omen?” Is he “The One?” Or is he Neo? The Shadow knows. Seriously.

I always thought the fundamental question facing America–White America–this presidential election cycle would boil down to a question of whether or not America–White America–could accept its salvation if it meant that the “Savior” had to be a Black man? Would Americans–White Americans–vote their best interests, or would they, blinded by racism vote for their own doom, because they just could not support a Black man in that office?

But that’s just part of the picture. Now, I have discovered, there are some militant (White) “U.S. Christians who regard the prospective presidency of Barack Obama in the nature of a biblical plague visited upon a sinful people,” so said columnist Robert D. Novak on May 12, 2008.  And in late June conservative Christians openly challenged Sen. Obama’s biblical interpretations.

What Bible are those Christians reading?

The prospective presidency of Barack Hussein Obama, just might be a biblical plague visited upon a sinful people? Where is that? I guess it’s near the chapter and verse where it says a slave is supposed to love his Master more than he loves himself.

In 1831, the Terrorist Nat Turner understood that same Bible very differently. He was in Southhampton, Virginia, and to him the Bible said that on a certain day he should rise up and lead his followers to murder their slavemasters and seize their freedom by force of arms. Same Bible. That’s the Bible (coincidentally) I believe in. The one that says the slaves will be set free! That Black Liberation Theology. Same Bible. Continue reading

No anti-Obama Press Club ‘Jeremiah’ conspiracy

A lot has been said recently about the April 28 National Press Club appearance of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.

A lot!

Because of the event’s apparently toxic effect on the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the post-appearance discussion has generated a lot of heat, but very little light, especially among Black journalists.

As far as I’m concerned, the most disturbing assertions are that Press Club Speaker’s Committee member, the Rev. Dr. Barbara A. Reynolds, “set up” the retiring Senior Pastor of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ–the church where Sen. Obama has been a member for more than 20 years–set up the “Black Liberation Theologist” to appear there, in order to boost the campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

No way.

That’s a bit much, because, who could have known that the distinguished pastor who has been unfairly lambasted by the corporate-owned, mainstream media, would respond on the national news stage with the back of his hand for USA Today reporter Donna Leinwand, vice president of the Press Club, who presided over the reverend’s rare breakfast speaking appearance; and that he would show the rest of White America his bare backside. Thoughts on ‘race’ in the Presidential race

Many of the supporters of the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) are more than just a little bit peeved these days that the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright has gone public in his defense of reputation, his theology. Black Liberation Theology. Where’s the “contrition” in that philosophy?

On the other hand, Sen. Obama’s critics are ecstatic. They feel Rev. Wright has piled more fuel at the foot of the already incendiary stake to which Sen. Obama–a healer, a Rev. Jeremiah Wright at Press Club 2008reconciler, a conciliator, who has eschewed a race-base campaign all these months–has been bound. Somewhere, smirking, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) must be hoping someone will soon toss a torch onto the awaiting bonfire.

Just two months ago, Sen. Obama was forced to “reject and denounce” the unsolicited kind words said about him on Feb. 25 by Min. Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam. Min. Farrakhan’s name is still being bandied about in this latest contretemps, even though he has been silent on the subject for the last 60 days. Go figure.

Suppose, just suppose, in his remarks before the National Press Club April 28, instead of quoting the Bible: “God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, so shall he reap…” in defending his “incendiary” comment about America’s “chickens coming home to roost” on Sept. 11, 2001; suppose instead Rev. Wright had quoted James Russell Lowell’s poem, “The Present Crisis.”

“Truth forever on the scaffold, Wrong forever on the throne,–

“Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown,

“Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.” Continue reading

Bishop S.C. Madison: “Daddy’s” Gone…Long live “Sweet Daddy”

Daddy Madison

Bishop S.C. Madison, the Presiding Bishop of the United House of Prayer for All People has been laid to rest in grand fashion April 14. He was only the third leader of what must be considered the first Black “Mega Church.”

My hat is off to the UHOP. May God Be Pleased With You. UHOP members don’t stand out from other middle class, “Raisin in the Sun” type, striving Black folks, they don’t change their names to “El” or “Bey” or Rashideen. Of course their clean, well dressed, well represented. But there’s something else about their strength I admire. The way they worship, their exuberant musical tributes.

Bishop Grace–Sweet Daddy Grace–founded his first church in West Waltham, Massachusetts, around 1919. By the mid-1920s he had moved South, and was holding large, popular revivals and tent-meetings around Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1927, with an estimated 13,000 followers, Bishop Grace incorporated The United House of Prayer for All People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith. The church grew rapidly and soon included branches all along the eastern seaboard, claiming some 500,000 people in 100 congregations in 67 cities.

Was he “charismatic” or merely “flamboyant?”

Charles Manuel Grace was of mixed African and Portuguese descent, born in the Cape Verde Islands around 1882. His family came to the United States during the first decade of the twentieth century. In the Cape Verdean communities of New Bedford and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the young Charles Grace worked as a short-order cook, a cranberry picker, and a sewing machine and patent medicine salesman, before giving his life completely to his ministry.

Bishop Grace was said to have been a showman, but he was always a generous benefactor. He sponsored bands and parades, and tossed candy to his followers (hence “Sweet Daddy”) and to this day UHOP marching bands and steppers travel up and down the east coast in bright, shiny, dream-mobile-looking buses where they perform at various congregation meetings and rallies.

Daddy Grace dazzled with his long hair, multicolored robes, and colored fingernails. Continue reading

Is Obama a Muslim?

“Is Senator Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim?”

So, what if he is? I don’t see anything wrong with being a Muslim.

But writing from Jerusalem, WorldNetDaily correspondent Aaron Klein asked recently: “Is Sen. Barack Obama a Muslim? Did he ever practice Islam?”

“The presidential candidate officially rejects both claims, but the issue of Obama’s personal faith has re-emerged amid conflicting accounts of his enrollment as a Muslim during elementary school in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation,” writes Mr. Klein.

“Widely distributed reports have noted in January 1968, Obama was registered as a Muslim at Jakarta’s Roman Catholic Franciscus Assisi Primary School under the name Barry Soetoro. He was listed as an Indonesian citizen,” he continues. Sen. Obama’s stepfather he said, worked for the Indonesian Army.

That’s enough about, whether he is or was ever a Muslim! At age six, in 1968, he–Barry Soetoro, or Barack Hussein Obama–could hardly have been expected to make an informed decision about what religion he should list on his elementary school registration. And why now, should the adult Obama be held responsible for an administrative decision made by his now deceased parents. What did they cheat and get food stamps or something? Do they even have food stamps or welfare in Indonesia?

We are not going to “Play The Dozens” concerning Sen. Obama, okay? Continue reading

‘Winter Soldiers’ denounce the war they fought

Vice President Dick Cheney and Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), marked March 19, the fifth anniversary of the illegal and immoral U.S. invasion of Iraq by visiting there, where they proclaimed its success.

Meanwhile, thousands of anti-war protestors marked the occasion in Washington with a full week of acts of civil disobedience and teach-ins.

Led by active-duty personnel and veterans the mostly all-White bands of war protestors raised their voices against the senseless mayhem in Iraq and Afghanistan that is the Bush administration policy. They were joined by members of Code Pink, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Veterans For Peace, and the Stop Loss Congress on Capitol Hill a week before the anniversary.

Chanting “We are the Revolution,” 45 protestors were arrested at First St. and Independence Ave. on the House of Representatives’ side of the Capitol, and at the garage entrance to the Hart Bldg. on the Senate side.

“We’re saying to Congress, basically: ‘You guys have ridden a Peace Horse up to Capitol Hill. You haven’t made good on your promises. You haven’t done the job we elected you to do,’ which was de-fund the war and bring the troops home,” Jamillah El-Shafei, of the Stop Loss Congress said in an interview.

“We want them home now, not in 10 years. We’re (also) doing some blockading to confront Congress with civil resistance. Even if it’s for 45 minutes, in an effort to make the point: they have to listen to what the people say. Which is: bring our troops home and stop this policy of the back-door draft,” she continued. The “real” 3:00 a.m. phone call Sen. Obama will soon get

America’s typical, on-going, xenophobic, White-is-right mentality, which dominates the political landscape, has finally decided how to “deal with” the Presidential candidacy of Sen. Barack Hussein Obama Jr. They have already gone from the whispered innuendo about him secretly being a Muslim, to openly declaring that “Islamic terrorists will rejoice” if Sen. Obama is elected, as Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) did recently.

Terrorists worldwide will indeed be emboldened by an election victory by Sen. Obama they argue, not so much because of his name, or because of his family background, but because terrorists favor Sen. Obama’s, which true, patriotic Americans recognize as “surrender” policies that would translate into victory for the global jihad movement.

An Obama victory, they argue, will be a sign of future Western “appeasement” of America’s terrorist enemies, just as Neville Chamberlain’s victory in the United Kingdom, resulted in useless attempts to appease German Chancellor Adolf Hitler before World War II.

But the Bush administration, which I believe would never to leave anything to chance, when there’s a chance to cheat in order to affect the outcome, probably has some tricks up its sleeve. Continue reading

Whose idea was it to have a Farrakhan litmus test?

If Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) can survive the newly intensified news media-scrutiny demands on him, trying all along to keep the playing field level, while receiving multiple kitchen-sink-scars upside his head in the process, he could very well be on his way to The White House. And talk about being “twice as good.”

Imagine, you are in a classroom where a test is only applied to one student in the class. And he earns the best score. But why does he even have to pass the “Farrakhan Litmus Test.” He alone. Sen. Obama passed with flying colors.

Just what is being tested?

The implication is always that the Black candidate must do something extraordinary to demonstrate his or her fealty to the Crown, which is still firmly in White hands.

So, the scenario is that “Meet The Press” host Tim Russert would ambush Sen. Obama with the embarrassing “Farrakhan Question” during the final debate and showdown in Texas, a week before the big primaries. There are only two possible responses to the Farrakhan Question, both with considerable negative consequences. Sen. Obama’s choices were to politically “Pimp Slap” the Nation of Islam leader, the way Pres. Bill Clinton did to the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Sister Souljah, at the 1992 Rainbow-PUSH Coalition convention, or commit political suicide right there in the debate.

So, if we trust that he’s a true, red-blooded American, we can just proceed with the rest of his “weaknesses.” But it’s hard to shake the resentment some folks invariably feel, that here he comes, the “perfect” Black candidate–Harvard, White mother, grassroots community roots–so why does the perfect Black candidate have to have an African Muslim father, who gave him that middle name “Hussein?”

Can he be trusted?

Isn’t he a Muslim? Isn’t he unpatriotic? Isn’t his wife unpatriotic too? Isn’t he a terrorist? These are at the root of the Farrakhan Litmus Test. Continue reading

What Farrakhan actually said about Obama

(CHICAGO–Feb. 24, 2008) The nations–the Nation of Islam, the United States of America, the entire world–have simultaneously arrived at a divinely positioned crossroads, where ideals are pitted against selfishness and greed, and where young people, and one young man in particular are “the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change,” the Honorable Min. Louis Farrakhan told 20,000 supporters Feb. 24 in his 27th annual Saviours’ Day address.

That young man is presidential candidate and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

“We have been taught by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad that Master Fard Muhammad had a Black father and a White mother. The man that we call The Saviour was born of the two people,” Min. Farrakhan said, describing the founder of the Nation of Islam in North America and Mr. Muhammad’s Teacher, who was born in Mecca, Arabia Feb. 26, 1877.

“A Black man with a White mother became a saviour to us. A Black man with a White mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall,” Min Farrakhan said, pointing out that Sen. Obama does not represent the politics of yesterday, politics which have led this country to the brink of ruin.

“This has been the most difficult text that I have ever had to put together,” the Muslim leader told the audience made up of people from Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, Baltimore, New Orleans, Denver, Holly Springs and Jackson, Miss., Boston, London, Paris, Ottawa and Toronto, Canada, and dozens of other cities and towns who came to participate in the three-day meeting, which included workshops and gala events, and the annual reunion of Nation of Islam members who answered Min. Farrakhan’s call.

Sen. Obama, “is not only about changing who sits in the White House; he’s talking about changing the mindset of those that led us into the war in Iraq.” Continue reading
